The National Achievement Center together with Tim Olimpiade Biologi Indonesia (TOBI) organize National Science Olympiad. The selection started from district level (1st round), province level (2nd round), the national level (3rd round). The National Achievement Center is responsible as organizing committee, while TOBI is responsible both as organizing and scientific committee
1st round: ~5,000 students (primary and mostly from secondary high school)
2nd round: ~1,500 students
3rd round: between 75-100 students
All test material are produced by Tim Olimpiade Biologi Indonesia
1st round - district level
Type of test: one set of theoretical test (180 min), multiple choice; multiple true/false
Organizing committee: The National Achievement Center
Location of test: the appointed school at respective district
2nd round - province level
Type of test: one set of theoretical test (180 min), multiple choice; multiple true/false
Organizing committee: The National Achievement Center
Location of test: the appointed school at respective province
3rd round - national level
Type of test: exactly as IBO
Two set of theoretical test (@180 min), multiple choice; multiple true/false
Four topics of practical test (@90 min)
Organizing committee: The National Achievement Center. The 3rd round is a national event held for one week together with other science olympiads (Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, Informatics, Earth Science, Geography, and Economy)
Location of test: School or University depend on the host. Each year, the national level is hosted by different province.
Best 30 out of national level will proceed for special training camp for 2 weeks. Here, the students are trained both for theoretical and practical skills. The best four students are then selected as Indonesian representatives for IBO.
All students are prepared with their high school textbook, university textbook, academic journals, web-based courses and former NBO/IBO test. They also receive some modules for independent study at home and submit a completed assignment accordingly.
30 students at NBO received medals and certificates (5 gold, 10 silver, and 15 bronze). They also receive some amount of money (300-350 USD for gold medalist and less for other medalist) provided by the National Achievement Center. Additionally, local government (province) of which they represent may add some appreciation (money and other prizes).
Several prominent Universities in Indonesia also provide free entrance for medal awardee. However, most of these Universities require that the students select Biology related fields.
